The city is currently famous for having the highest leather product production in Japan. The art of leather crafting in this area dates back to the Kamakura period, with numerous important techniques passed down through the generations. Today, over 200 factories—ranging from large facilities to small workshops—are located in the area, producing a wide variety of leather goods.
